Traditional craftsman

What is a traditional craftsman?

The “Traditional Craftsman” certification system was created in 1974 with the aim of expanding demand for traditional crafts and fostering successors.

Craftsmen who are skilled in manufacturing traditional crafts and have excellent skills, knowledge and experience will be awarded the title of “Traditional Craftsman” by The Association for the Promotion of Traditional Craft Industries. This is a national qualification that can only be obtained if you pass the examination of the work and the written and practical tests.

As of 2018, there are 28 “Traditional Craftsmen” at Tokyo Ginki (Tokyo Silverware) , of which 2 are “Traditional Craftsman”, who have inherited the tradition and nurtured the next generation of craftsmen in our company.
